SINGAPORE – During the first half of April torrential rains with frequent lightning are expected.

The meteorologist also pointed out that the high incidence of lightning is normal for the months between monsoons like April.

Short-lived moderate to heavy rains are expected over parts of the island in the afternoon on most days, the Singapore Meteorological Service (MSS) said on Thursday (April 1).

On some days, stormy showers could extend into the early evening, while a morning or two is forecast to have gusty winds, triggered by the Sumatra storm from the Straits of Malacca.

Overall, rainfall is expected to be near normal over most of the island and the weather will remain warm for the first two weeks of this month.

On most days, temperatures are forecast to range between 25 and 34 degrees C and can reach 35 degrees C in a few days.

April is one of the warmest months of the year, the MSS said.

While the first two weeks of March had several days of dry and warm conditions, the second fortnight was wet with stormy rains in the afternoon on many days, mainly in the western part of the island.

The humid weather was due to strong daytime warming and converging winds, the MSS said.

The highest daily total rainfall for the month was 151.5mm, recorded in Jurong West on March 23.
