SINGAPORE – A car caught fire in Jalan Sultan at the intersection with Beach Road on Saturday night (March 20).
The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire in a vehicle, which involved the engine compartment of a car.
SCDF extinguished the fire with compressed air foam and a jet of water.
He added that the cause of the fire is being investigated.
By the time The Straits Times arrived at the venue around 7.40pm, 30-40 spectators had gathered in the area.
The black car had stopped in front of the Steamov Hotpot restaurant at 367/369 Beach Road.
Thangavel Vetrikumar, 46, owner of Muhil Minimart in City Gate across the street from the restaurant, said he smelled smoke and went out to investigate.
He said the fire started small but got bigger.
A woman and a man got out of the car before the fire grew and their belongings were taken, he added.
