SINGAPORE – A 31-year-old cyclist was killed in a traffic accident late on Friday (March 19) after being trapped under a bus on Loyang Avenue.

The 63-year-old bus driver has been arrested for reckless driving causing death, police said.

The Singapore Civil Defense Force said that around 10:40 p.m., it was alerted to the accident at the junction of Loyang Avenue and Pasir Ris Drive 1.

The SCDF said it used lifting equipment to rescue the cyclist, but a paramedic pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the accident.

Responding to inquiries from The Straits Times, SBS Transit Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications Tammy Tan said: “We are sorry this happened. The bus was traveling in a straight line and was about to turn right at the junction. sign that was green in your favor when the accident occurred.

“We are trying to get in touch with the cyclist’s family to extend our condolences and offer our help,” he added.

He also said that SBS Transit was assisting police in their investigations.

The Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that the cyclist was dragged about 30 meters under the bus.

Eyewitnesses saw the bicycle crushed under a wheel of the bus, he said.
