SINGAPORE: New SafeEntry Gateways will be deployed in select locations with large numbers of visitors, such as shopping malls, cinemas, hospitals and closed tourist attractions.

Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG) announced that beginning April 19, these venues will be required to implement the new SafeEntry Gateway in addition to the current SafeEntry registration methods.

In addition to closed shopping malls, cinemas, and tourist attractions, other places to use the new SafeEntry Gateway include large independent retail outlets, supermarkets, public libraries, select museums and galleries, MICE event venues, places of worship, and funeral homes with wake rooms.

Public and private hospitals, national specialty centers, community hospitals and polyclinics will also need to implement gateways.

They will also be installed in select popular wet markets, including Geylang Serai Market, Chong Pang Market, Markets in blocks 20 and 21 Marsiling Lane, and block 505 Jurong West Street 52.

Site operators can install a physical device, the SafeEntry Gateway box, or use the updated SafeEntry (Business) app at points of entry, the SNDGG said.

Once the gateway is set up, visitors can place their TraceTogether tokens or the phone with the TraceTogether app open 25cm from the box or the SafeEntry (Business) app for contactless registration, similar to using a link card EZ.

The box will emit a green light and beep, and the SafeEntry (Business) application will display a green screen, if the registration is successful.

Currently, companies can use the SafeEntry (Business) app to scan QR codes into TraceTogether or visitor NRIC tokens.

Existing forms of registering through SafeEntry will remain in effect at these locations, SNDGG said.

“Older cell phone models that may not work well with SafeEntry Gateway can continue to use these existing modes to register,” the SNDGG added in its press release.

Those who use the TraceTogether token can also use SafeEntry Gateways to check if their tokens are depleted. Tokens that are out of battery will not trigger a beep on gateways.

Starting in April, token replacement stations will be installed in some places where gateways have been deployed, so that discovered tokens that do not transmit Bluetooth signals can be “quickly replaced,” the press release reads. .

Users can also replace tokens that are out of battery or faulty at any community center for free. The TraceTogether token battery is expected to last four to six months, depending on the model.

Users can check if their token is working by looking for a green light that flashes once a minute. If the chip blinks red or when there is no light, it needs to be replaced.

More than 3 million TraceTogether tokens have been distributed, SNDGG said.
