Expert hints could be behind Klopp’s multiple changes at Liverpool

Graeme Souness believes Jurgen Klopp may have had rough conversations with some of his Liverpool players after the manager made several changes to his lineup.

It’s been a tough time for Liverpool lately. After losing five straight home games for the first time in their history, Klopp made the changes for Fulham’s visit to Anfield.

There was no place in their starting lineup for players like Sadio Mane, Thiago Alcantara and Trent Alexander-Arnold. In all, Klopp traded seven players from the lineup that lost to Chelsea on Thursday.

Klopp insisted before the game that his reasoning was simply to bring fresh legs to the side. But former midfielder Souness believes there may be more.

Have you had words with some of them? Not happy with some of them? “I’ve mentioned intensity before, which has been lacking,” Souness said in Sky sports.

“There is no doubt that they are still talented guys. Making seven changes is a lot. Are you starting to prioritize? Are you thinking they are going to have a hard time making the top four?

“It is a difficult decision, only the players and the coach himself will know if they have had words. But I imagine Jurgen, if he hasn’t gotten there then he’s pretty close to going down the road where he will have to fight some players.

“I imagine seven changes is more than he would want to make, so I think he has had some harsh words with the players.”

Keane believes Klopp has ‘lost patience’ with players

Roy Keane, Expert

Fellow expert Roy Keane agreed with Souness, stating that Klopp has “lost patience” with some of his star men.

“I think he’s lost patience with some of the players,” Keane suggested. “I think we continue to analyze how they are doing defensively, but in the future, the lack of goals, especially at home.

“There is a way to lose a soccer game; Chelsea was very good [on Thursday]but I think Liverpool had a shot on goal.

“I don’t think they are a happy group, I look at the retiring players and obviously you don’t expect them to be happy to be eliminated. But shaking your head, sitting on the podium, it’s not great body language.

“We saw it with Salah in the week, Mane at Palace, Milner at West Ham. I don’t think they are a happy group.

“He’s made so many changes, okay, games are coming, but I think he thought, ‘Enough is enough, I have to mix it up.’
