SINGAPORE – An Indonesian domestic worker was the only new coronavirus case in the community announced on Saturday (March 6).
The 35-year-old woman arrived in Singapore on January 20 and delivered her stay-at-home notice (SHN) at a dedicated facility until February 3.
Both the pre-departure test conducted on January 18 in Indonesia and the swab performed on February 2 were negative for Covid-19.
She is asymptomatic and only tested positive when she had another test before departure on March 4, this time in preparation for her return to Indonesia.
She was then taken to the National Center for Infectious Diseases in an ambulance.
Another test conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) on March 5 came back negative.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that since they could not definitively confirm the date of the infection, they would take all necessary public health actions as a precautionary measure, including quarantining all their identified close contacts.
Twelve imported cases were also announced on Saturday.
All of them had been put on stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.
Saturday’s new cases bring Singapore’s total to 60,020.
Of the 12 imported cases, one is a Singaporean who returned from Indonesia and another is a permanent resident who returned from Malaysia.
There were two dependent pass holders and one Indian work pass holder.
Seven were work permit holders from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of which three were foreign domestic workers.
The number of new cases in the community has been stable at four cases per week for the past two weeks.
The number of unrelated cases in the community has increased from two cases in the previous week to three cases in the last week.
With nine cases discharged on Saturday, 59,864 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.
A total of 22 patients remain in the hospital, while 90 recover in community facilities.
One is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
