SINGAPORE – More than 60,000 coronavirus cases have already been recorded in Singapore after another nine were confirmed at noon on Friday (March 5).
The newly discovered infections, bringing the republic’s confirmed case count to 60,007 since the start of the pandemic, were all imported, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.
He said patients were placed on stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.
In an update late Friday, the Health Ministry said all nine cases were asymptomatic.
Three are dependent pass holders who came from Bangladesh, India and South Africa.
One is a long-term visitor pass holder who arrived from South Africa.
Three are work pass holders who came from India and the Philippines.
The last two cases are work permit holders who came from Indonesia and the Philippines, of which one is a foreign domestic worker, the Health Ministry said.
No new cases were announced from the community or from workers’ dormitories on Friday.
The number of new cases in the community has dropped from four cases two weeks ago to three last week.
However, the number of unrelated cases in the community has remained stable at two cases per week in the same period.
With 13 cases discharged on Friday, 59,855 patients have fully recovered from the disease.
A total of 17 patients remain in the hospital, including one in the intensive care unit, while 91 recover in community facilities.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
