SINGAPORE – An 82-year-old Singaporean man who initially tested negative for Covid-19 was between the two unrelated community cases announced on Wednesday (March 3).
The retiree developed a runny nose, body aches and chills on February 14 and sought medical treatment at a general medicine clinic on February 22, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.
He was tested for the virus, but the test came back negative at the time.
While she had signed up for the Covid-19 vaccination on February 22, she did not proceed with the vaccination on the date of her appointment, as her doctor had previously advised her to postpone it if she was not feeling well, the Health Ministry added. .
On Monday, he sought medical treatment again, as he was still feeling unwell and had Covid-19 samples taken.
His test came back positive the next day and he was taken by ambulance to the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
His serological test result was negative, indicating that it is probably a current infection, the Health Ministry added.
The second community case is a 38-year-old permanent resident who is a homemaker.
She is asymptomatic and was caught when she took a Covid-19 test before departure on Tuesday in preparation for a trip to India, the Health Ministry said.
Her result was positive for the infection the next day and she was taken to NCID. The result of the woman’s serological test is pending.
There were also 21 imported cases confirmed by the Ministry of Health, bringing Singapore’s total to 59,979.
They tested positive while handing out stay-at-home notices after their arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.
Among the imported cases is a permanent resident who arrived from Indonesia.
The remaining 20 cases are work pass holders who traveled from India, Nepal and Nigeria.
Mustafa Center, Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman Temple and GHK 407 Food House in Ang Mo Kio are among the places visited by Covid-19 patients when they were still infectious, the Health Ministry said.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from two cases in the previous week to four cases in the last week.
The number of unrelated cases in the community has also increased from none in the previous week to four cases in the last week.
With seven cases discharged on Wednesday, 59,834 patients have fully recovered from the disease.
A total of 18 patients remain in the hospital, including one in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 83 recover in community facilities.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
