SINGAPORE – A former elementary school teacher, who was jailed for 24 weeks in 2017 for taking videos under the skirts, re-offended in 2018 after his release and sexually abused a 32-year-old woman.

Wong Loo Wah, 36, was sentenced Thursday (February 18) to six months in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual abuse involving the same victim.

Assistant District Attorney Norine Tan said the woman, who cannot be named due to a gag order, met Wong in 2006, but the couple did not meet later.

In 2018, after being released from prison, Wong began commenting on his photos on Facebook and chatting on the messaging platform WhatsApp.

The woman, who had a boyfriend, agreed to meet him for a movie at the Filmgarde cinema in the Bugis + shopping center on December 28 of that year.

The court heard that she was surprised that Wong chose the seats right at the end of the last row despite the theater not being full.

While watching the movie, Wong touched her kneecap and repeatedly ran his hand down her thigh.

The DPP said: “Near the end of the film, the defendant began to wrap his thumb around her kneecap again and the victim pulled his hand away … The defendant put his arm around her shoulder, causing her to push him away. , since she didn’t want him to touch her. “

The woman wanted to go home after the movie, but Wong asked her to stay so they could eat together.

The couple was in a store at the mall when he abused her the second time.

The woman felt very uncomfortable and walked away from him. She didn’t know what to do and suggested they split up, DPP Tan said.

The pair were in a parking lot shortly after when Wong abused her again. Upset, the woman told him to stop touching her and left on her motorcycle.

The victim then told friends about her ordeal and filed a police report on January 3, 2019.

DPP Tan, who urged the court to sentence Wong to at least eight months in jail, said: “His conduct was persistent. The defendant persisted in sexual harassment and assault of the victim throughout the night, from the cinema to the grocery store. and the parking lot, exploiting his inability to react due to his shock and fear, and despite his intermittent attempts to get him to stop. “

On Thursday, defense attorney Ashwin Ganapathy pleaded for his client to be sentenced to 18 weeks in jail.

He said, “It goes without saying that our client truly regrets his actions. Since our client’s arrest, he has had a lot of time to reflect on his actions. Our client is ashamed of his actions and promises not to repeat his mistakes.”

Wong’s bail was set at $ 15,000 on Thursday and he was ordered to turn himself in to state courts on March 2 to begin serving his final sentence.

For each count of sexual abuse, an offender can be imprisoned for up to two years and fined or punished.
