SINGAPORE – Banana Leaf Apolo restaurant chain was indicted in district court on Wednesday (February 17) for alleged Covid-19 breaches during Phase 2 of the reopening.

During that time, the meetings were limited to five people.

The Indian restaurant, known for its fish head curry, faces five charges under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act. All of the alleged crimes were committed at his Little India Arcade store on Serangoon Road on September 12 of last year.

Among other things, between 7:45 PM and 10:00 PM on that day, he allegedly failed to take steps to ensure that the meetings did not exceed the maximum allowed group size.

The company allegedly violated regulations by providing a self-service buffet and allowing customers to make speeches.

He has also been accused of allowing a video recording to be shown and not imposing a safe distance between seated customers.

The Singapore Tourism Board filed a Magistrate’s Complaint against the company on January 20 for multiple violations related to the pandemic.

The Little India Arcade store was ordered to close for 10 days last year, from October 26 to November 4, for violating Covid-19 regulations.

The case was referred to the Attorney General’s Office after further investigations.

The company is expected to plead guilty on April 1.

On February 10, the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) said that 102 people and several food and beverage outlets (F&B) had been sanctioned for violations earlier this month.

The MSE said six food and drink establishments were ordered closed, while another five and 29 people were fined for violating safe management measures.

A total of 73 people were also fined $ 300 each for violating Covid-19 regulations on February 6 and 7 in parks and beaches.

Food and beverage outlets ordered to close included the Ah Yat seafood restaurant on Turf Club Road, which allowed for a 65-person company dinner on February 6. The guests sat at nine tables.
