SINGAPORE – A scientist with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A * Star) allegedly exposed himself and performed a sexual act in the backyard of a condo last year.

Chinese citizen Xie Danpeng, 30, whose pre-trial conference was held in state courts on Monday (February 8), is charged with committing the crime on April 12 last year.

He is said to have pulled down his shorts before sexually stimulating himself in the presence of two others at the Barossa Gardens condo on Pasir Panjang Road between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. that day.

Details about his alleged victims have been removed from court documents.

Xie is also charged with other crimes, including two counts of burglary and burglary.

His next pre-trial conference will be April 5.

A * Star told The Straits Times in a statement that he has been an employee of its Institute for Microelectronics since 2019.

Their spokesperson added: “A * Star holds our employees to the highest standards of conduct and behavior and will take appropriate action when the outcome is clear.

“The case is now in court and A * Star has no further comment.”

According to Xie’s LinkedIn page, he has a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Macau.

The university website reads: “Xie Danpeng, a PhD student from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology … received the Best Student Paper Award at the International Conference on Millimeter Wave Technology and Microwave 2018.

“Titled ‘Microstrip Leaky Wave Antennas with Periodic Shorting Pin Loading,’ Xie’s paper ranked first with the highest overall score among all student papers at the conference.”

If convicted of exposing yourself, you can be jailed for up to one year and fined.
