SINGAPORE – A woman who was caught on video spitting on KFC staff last year was convicted on Thursday morning (January 28).

Lin Si Ting, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of harassment and use of criminal force on staff.

A third charge under the Covid-19 regulations will be taken into consideration for sentencing.

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on April 22 last year, Lin went to the KFC store at the Nex mall and placed her order at the counter.

After just six minutes, he approached the counter again and yelled at the staff, asking why his order was taking so long and demanding that it be served immediately.

The duty manager, a 40-year-old woman, apologized and explained to Lin that there were orders before hers.

He told Lin to wait another five minutes for his food.

The defendant was unhappy and demanded a refund if the food was not served immediately.

The duty manager agreed to give Lin a refund and asked for the receipt, which the defendant threw at him.

While the refund was being processed, Lin lowered her mask and hurled a series of vulgarities at the staff.

He also pointed to the duty manager and said, “Wait for you to die, wait for your whole family to die.”

He then spat at the victim twice, saliva landing on the woman’s arm.

Lin took her cash and left.

But a few minutes later, he returned to the KFC and claimed that they had reimbursed him less than he had paid.

The victim reviewed the order records and confirmed that the amount refunded was correct.

Lin yelled at the victim again while other staff members called the police.

He left before the police arrived.

The court was told that Lin has schizophrenia and is receiving treatment.

On Thursday, District Judge May Mesenas requested a report to determine Lin’s eligibility for a Mandatory Treatment Order (MTO).

The defendant is expected to return to court on February 25 for sentencing.

The crime of causing willful harassment carries a fine of up to $ 5,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.

Lin can also be jailed for up to three months, or fined up to $ 1,500, or both, for using criminal force against a person.
