SINGAPORE – 30 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed as of noon on Sunday (January 17), bringing Singapore’s total to 59,113.

There were 28 imported cases that were placed on a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

Sunday’s figure also included two community cases.

No new cases were announced inside the workers’ bedrooms.

More details will be announced Sunday night.

On Saturday, a Singaporean couple and the wife of the K-9 unit para-vet who previously tested positive were among four new coronavirus cases in the community reported by the Health Ministry.

In total, 24 new cases were reported on Saturday, one from the Tuas Sur dormitory and 19 imported.

One of the community cases on Saturday was that of a 39-year-old man who works for the Singapore Scout Association at 12 Bishan Street, mainly dealing with clerical work in the office. He is also a part-time bus driver with Westpoint Transit, which runs specific routes for Cameron (Singapore) and GlaxoSmithKline Tuas.

His wife, another community case and also 39, works as an administrative officer at OCBC Tampines Center One, but does not interact with clients.

Another patient on Saturday was a 28-year-old woman, who is the wife of the 32-year-old man who works as a para-vet for the Singapore Police.

She had previously been identified as his close contact and was quarantined on January 13.

She works as a Correctional Staff Officer in the Singapore Prison Service, but does not interact with inmates.

She had been working mainly from home during this period, the Health Ministry said.

The last community case on Saturday was that of a 33-year-old Chinese citizen who is the holder of a work permit. He works as a food processing worker at Golden Bridge Foods Manufacturing.

They took a swab, but the test result came back negative on January 8. He returned to work on January 13, but the next day he developed a fever and then tested positive.

There were also 19 imported cases, from countries such as India, the United Arab Emirates, France, Japan, Spain and Myanmar.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has dropped from eight cases in the previous week to six cases in the last week, the Health Ministry said.

The number of unrelated cases in the community in one week has also decreased from five cases to four during the same period.

With 13 cases discharged on Saturday, 58,769 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.

A total of 54 patients remained in the hospital on Saturday, none in intensive care, while 216 recovered in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 94.9 million people. More than two million people have died.
