The family of a seven-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in 1995 received a notice about the unsolved crime after her appeal for more clues.

Lim Shiow Rong’s body was found in some bushes near a sewer tank in front of Jalan Woodbridge on June 25, 1995. He disappeared after telling his mother that he was going to meet a “daddy’s friend.” The killer is still at large.

The victim’s younger sister, Lim Jia Hui, now 27, and her mother made a public appeal last Sunday (January 10) for more information about the crime that has not been solved for almost 26 years.

The man answers the call for more information.

Since then, a man has come forward after media reports about the case were published. He told Lim through a phone call that he had more information about a man who matched the photo booth released by police in 1995.

Lim filed a police report on Thursday (January 14) with the new information. A copy of the police report was also posted on the Facebook page of the volunteer organization Crime Library Singapore, which had highlighted Lim’s case to the media.

According to the statement, it said the caller had information about another customer at Lim’s mother’s cafeteria who used to visit her stall frequently and fit the description of a suspect that the police had been looking for.

Lim told the Straits Times that an officer from the Criminal Investigation Department has contacted her.

She said: “My mother and I were happy and pleased that they heard our appeal and were investigating the case.”
