SINGAPORE: The M2 World Championship of the esports tournament will proceed as scheduled on January 18, although three participants from Brazil tested positive for COVID-19, event organizer MOONTON said on Friday (January 15).

One participant was confirmed as an imported COVID-19 case in the Health Ministry update on Wednesday, while the other two infections were reported Thursday.

All three tested positive after a swab at the end of their 14-day stay-at-home notice, MOONTON said in response to CNA inquiries.

“Each had had a PCR test for COVID-19 and tested negative before departing for Singapore,” MOONTON said in its statement.

His close contacts have been identified and are currently serving their quarantine in a dedicated facility, he added.

There are 12 teams represented in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang game-centric tournament, including two teams from Singapore.

In addition to Brazil, foreign teams come from Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Russia.
