BEIJING: China’s Internet erupted in jubilation over America’s troubled democracy after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol, likening the chaos to Hong Kong’s 2019 anti-government protests.

Hong Kong protesters stormed the legislature to demand democracy, a battle they appear to have lost when China installed a national security law, wiping out opposition figures and activists in mass arrests.

US President-elect Joe Biden said American rioters were undermining democracy by trying to reverse Trump’s defeat in the November election.
