A party to celebrate the new year ended on a tragic note for a young woman in the Philippines.

On January 1, flight attendant Christine Angelica Dacera was found unconscious in the bathtub of her hotel room in Makati City, where she had celebrated the occasion with some Philippines Airlines (PAL) coworkers.

Dacera, 23, received cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the hotel clinic, but did not respond. She was later rushed to the Makati Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival, and the cause of death was a brain aneurysm.

Makati City police filed provisional rape and murder charges against 11 men who were with Dacera at the party, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on January 4.

“The victim had lacerations and sperm on her genitals,” the police chief said, adding that bruises, bruises and scratches were found on her arms and legs.

Three suspects arrested

Three of the men have surfaced, while the rest have become scarce, he said. The trio, aged between 25 and 29, are currently in police custody.

“Only three of them were friends of Dacera. The others were practically unknown to her, as only her three friends knew them,” added the police chief.

‘My daughter is a very good girl’

Dacera’s mother, Sharon, told GMA News that she had allowed her daughter to attend the party because she trusted her coworkers.

“She doesn’t deserve what you did to her. My daughter is a very good girl,” Sharon said through tears.

Meanwhile, PAL called Dacera’s death “tragic” and described her as a “professional and honorable member of the crew” in a statement on January 5.

The company extends its support to the family of the deceased and hopes “that the truth will come out in the interest of justice.”
