He came out of the rubble but was unable to save his older brother, who was still trapped in the car.

Then the latter lost consciousness and died before his eyes.

In the early hours of Saturday (January 2), a pair of brothers were involved in an accident while traveling down the Kranji Highway towards the Bukit Timah Highway.

His Toyota MPV is believed to have crashed into the railings, causing him to overturn on a grassy slope on the side of the road.

The accident killed the 28-year-old driver.

Her stepfather spoke to Lianhe Zaobao at the morgue and told her that he had gone fishing with them that night.

But less than 10 minutes after he was sent home, he received a call from his youngest stepson, who said he is a firefighter, telling him that they had been in a car accident.

“When I ran there, I saw him trying to save his older brother who was trapped in the rubble.”

But the older brother soon lost consciousness and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The 26-year-old was later taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, police said.

A family friend told the Chinese newspaper: “He blames himself for not being able to save his brother. His family members cannot accept his death.”

Police investigations are ongoing.
