Singapore – Two recent but separate cases of Covid-19 security breaches, one on a yacht and the other on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, have prompted investigations by authorities.

On Saturday (December 26), Facebook user Bu Hui Yan posted images of what appears to be a Christmas party on a yacht on Lazarus Island. A group of about 10 men and women in bathing suits, some in Santa hats, could be seen dancing on the stern. Nobody wore a mask.

The images also showed people on the coast exhibiting contrasting behavior as they wore face masks.

The post led members of the online community to question the lack of social distancing and adherence to Covid-19 security measures.

Before December 28, it was mandatory that meetings outside and inside homes be limited to five people. The number increased to eight in line with Phase 3 of exiting the Circuit Breaker period.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) announced on December 30 that it was alerted to the incident, according to asiaone.com. Investigations are ongoing.

“MPA takes a serious view of any breaches of Covid-19 regulations and will not hesitate to take action against such breaches,” said a representative.

“MPA regularly patrols our waters. We urge the public, as well as vessel owners and operators, to be responsible for and comply with all Covid-19 safe management measures, including wearing a mask and enforcing passenger limits on board vessels. recreation “.

In the other case, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on December 30 that it was investigating a possible violation of the regulations by a group on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.

A group of more than 10 men and women appeared in photos shared on their Instagram accounts. The images, taken on December 20 and 21, indicate that the group had gathered without masks and were not keeping a safe distance of one meter from each other.

A reader informed The New Paper of the alleged violations and reported the incident to the STB. The latter’s cruise director, Annie Chang, confirmed that she was investigating the meeting.

“The safety of passengers and crew is our priority, and regular inspections are carried out on board during the voyages to ensure compliance with all security management measures in force,” he told TNP. / ITGS
