SINGAPORE – Another Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) student was among the three community cases announced on Friday (January 1).

The 14-year-old Singaporean is a friend of case 58,843, who is a family member of a permanent resident, a marine surveyor from Lloyd’s Register Singapore who was also a confirmed case.

The teenager had visited her friend at her home on December 27 for a few hours while the marine surveyor was present.

As a result, the girl, who was at school for the last time in October, was identified as a close contact on Tuesday and placed in quarantine, the Health Ministry said.

She developed a fever the next day and was taken to the KK Children’s and Women’s Hospital in an ambulance, where she was tested for the virus, the Health Ministry added.

His test result came back positive for the infection on Thursday.

The second community case is that of a 52-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a customer analyst at Deutsche Bank (One Raffles Quay) but does not interact with customers or external parties.

She is a family member of the case 58,817, a Singaporean working as a port pilot, as well as two cases reported on Thursday, the Health Ministry said.

She developed symptoms Monday and sought medical treatment at a general medicine clinic Tuesday.

However, he decided not to get tested for Covid-19 despite being advised by a doctor to do so.

He was granted a five-day medical leave during which he had to stay home.

On Thursday, she was quarantined after being identified as a close contact from previous community cases and reported that she was unwell when contacted by the Health Ministry.

Her test result came back positive for Covid-19 after she was taken to the National Center for Infectious Diseases in an ambulance.

Your serological test result was negative, indicating that there is likely a current infection.

Those who are advised by their doctors to get tested for Covid-19 should do so, to allow early identification of affected people and to contain further spread of the virus, the Health Ministry said.

The only unrelated community case is that of a 53-year-old Japanese man who works for Kurosawa and Partners, a management consulting firm, but works from his home on Rochor Road.

The work pass holder is asymptomatic and his condition was detected when he performed a pre-departure test for Covid-19 on Thursday before his return to Japan.

It had arrived in Singapore from Japan on November 26 and was posted on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) in a dedicated facility until December 10.

A pre-departure test he took on November 24 was negative for Covid-19 and his test on December 6 during his SHN was also negative.

When his result came back positive for Covid-19 infection on Thursday night, he was transferred to NCID on Friday.

In Friday’s statement, the Health Ministry also said that following an investigation by Mandarin Orchard Singapore, it had “determined that there was no further transmission” beyond the 13 previously reported cases.

It has approved the reopening of the hotel as of Saturday, including its restaurant and event spaces.

All 27 were placed on stay-at-home notices or in isolation upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from one case in the previous week to 10 cases in the last week.

A total of 56 patients remain in the hospital and 85 recover in community facilities. A patient is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
