SINGAPORE: Two men who assisted police with incidents of voyeurism at MRT stations, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators, were among 15 people who received the Public Spirit Award (PSA) in December.

“Given the high volume of daily commuters, our public transportation system is an attractive target for criminals,” police said in a press release on Wednesday (December 30).

The Public Transportation Security Command (TransCom) awards are given in recognition of people’s efforts to assist law enforcement in incidents that occurred aboard public transportation nodes, such as MRT stations and interchanges. buses.

In the first case, Lee Jun Jie noticed that a man was behaving suspiciously on board a train heading towards the MacPherson MRT station.

“The man had slipped the mobile phone under a woman’s skirt and had taken pictures of her under her skirt,” police said.

“The act caught Mr. Lee’s attention and helped the police arrest the man.”

Later, the man was arrested for voyeurism.

The second incident occurred on October 15.

“Mr Chan Heng Wei saw a man who had slipped a mobile phone under a woman’s skirt on the escalator at Ang Mo Kio MRT station,” police said.

Mr. Chan immediately alerted the woman and reported the incident to the police.

The man was subsequently arrested for voyeurism after investigations.

“It is encouraging to see members of the public showing courage and civility to report the commission of a crime,” said Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police Fanny Koh Bee Yuan.

Ms. Koh, who is also a commander of TransCom, said that people’s vigilance and willingness to step forward to provide valuable information to the police is “truly commendable”.
