SINGAPORE – A Singapore Airlines pilot and a work pass holder have preliminarily tested positive for the new B117 strain of the coronavirus circulating in the UK.
They were among 27 new coronavirus cases confirmed on Wednesday (December 30), bringing Singapore’s total to 58,569.
The pilot, a 40-year-old Singaporean, had traveled to the UK for work between December 19 and 22, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported on Wednesday (December 30).
It was tested on December 23 as part of routine checklist tests conducted for aircrew who travel frequently.
Although she tested negative for Covid-19 upon returning to Singapore, she developed a fever on December 26 and sought medical treatment at a general medicine clinic the next day, where she was swabbed and confirmed positive on December 29.
He was then taken by ambulance to the National Center for Infectious Diseases.
Serological tests indicate that he is likely to have a current infection, the Health Ministry said.
More tests will be done to confirm the Covid-19 strain the man has.
The work pass holder who also preliminarily tested positive for the B117 strain is a 53-year-old man who returned from the UK.
Although she ended her stay-at-home ad on December 21, she developed body aches the next day and acute respiratory symptoms on December 25.
It was then confirmed positive for Covid-19 on December 29.
Meanwhile, there were 24 other imported cases, all of which had been placed on a stay-at-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.
Among the imported cases, three are from Singapore, four are permanent residents, five are work pass holders and seven are work permit holders.
Of the seven work permit holders, six are foreign domestic workers.
Imported cases also include three dependent pass holders, a long-term visit pass holder, a short-term visit pass holder, and a special pass holder.
The only community case announced on Wednesday (December 30) is a permanent resident working as a marine surveyor at Lloyd’s Register Singapore.
As part of his job, the 46-year-old works aboard vessels docked at Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard.
He had not gone to work since the onset of symptoms on December 27.
His case is currently unrelated and epidemiological investigations are ongoing, the Health Ministry said.
The Health Ministry added that all identified close contacts of the cases have been isolated and quarantined.
Tests will be conducted at the beginning and end of your quarantine period so that the ministry can detect asymptomatic cases.
Marina Bay Sands, IMM, Takashimaya and Orchard Gateway were among the places visited by Covid-19 patients when they were still infectious, the Health Ministry said.
The Ministry of Health provides the list of places that infectious Covid-19 patients visited for at least 30 minutes and the times they visited so that people who were in those places at the same time monitor their health closely for two weeks to from the date of your visit. .

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with a total of two cases in the last week that are currently not linked.
With 11 cases discharged on Wednesday, 58,396 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.
A total of 52 patients remain in the hospital, while 77 recover in community facilities. None are in intensive care.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
