SINGAPORE – As the Republic entered reopening phase three on Monday (December 28), the national agency Sport Singapore (SportSG) announced that it would expand the availability of selected sports facilities under the Dual Use Plan (DUS), the purposes of week between January 2. and March 14.

In November, SportSG had announced that school sports facilities under the DHE, which include pavilions and covered sports fields, would be available for public use during the end of the year school holidays.

The use of these facilities was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the extension, the public will be able to access 50 paid fields and 119 covered sports halls located in 135 primary and secondary schools starting Saturday.

Reservations can be made through the ActiveSG app starting Tuesday.

The 169 facilities that will reopen represent less than 60 percent of the 290 DUS facilities, which also feature free playing fields and had a pre-Covid acceptance rate of about 80 percent.

The fields will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. M. And the sports halls covered from 3 to 9 pm. M., Saturdays.

On Sundays, the 169 facilities will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

“During the school vacation period, we received positive feedback from our members who expressed appreciation for having more spaces and opportunities to stay fit,” said Sng Hock Lin, Head of ActiveSG.

“We will continue to assess the Covid-19 situation and explore the possibility of progressively opening more spaces, while ensuring that the safety of our players, as well as students and school staff is not compromised.”

SportSG emphasized that users of DHE facilities must adhere to safe management measures guidelines.

For users of DUS badminton facilities, a maximum of eight people per court is allowed, along with an additional instructor or coach.

For other indoor sports in the room such as netball, volleyball, basketball and floorball, a maximum of eight people per group is allowed, with an additional instructor or coach.

Several groups can share the court, but they must respect a safe distance.

And for the fields, a maximum of 50 people per field is allowed, with a distance of three meters between groups of eight.

SportSG warned that it would crack down on individuals who fail to comply with safe management measures, including a ban on the use of all DUS and ActiveSG facilities.

A Safe Distance Ambassador and a facility guardian will also be stationed at each facility to ensure that users adhere to the guidelines.
