Singapore – 987FM radio DJ Sonia Chew has been replaced as host of Mediacorp’s countdown show “Let’s Celebrate 2021” amid an alleged violation of safe distancing measures.

This was confirmed by a spokesperson, who said that the show will now be hosted by fellow DJ Jean Danker.

Initially, Chew was supposed to host the event with 987FM’s DJ Joakim Gomez, and the show would be screened both online and on Mediacorp channels.

Chew was dumped amid an investigation into an allegation that she was at a gathering to celebrate actor Jeffrey Xu’s 32nd birthday in October in which a total of 13 people participated.

Among those present were four Mediacorp artists – Chew, Xu, Terence Cao and Shane Pow – and two celebrities who were not with Mediacorp, Jeremy Chan and Julie Tan.

The Ministry of National Development (MND) was alerted to a possible violation of safe distancing measures that occurred in a residence and is investigating the matter.

In an Instagram post on Sunday (December 27), Chew apologized for what happened. She said she was invited to have drinks with what she understood to be a small group of people and didn’t know it was a birthday celebration.

Mediacorp’s statement in its entirety in this regard is as follows:

“We take this matter seriously, and we constantly inform and remind our artists to adhere to safe driving guidelines at all times. We will also cooperate fully with the authorities in their investigations.

Meanwhile, Jean Danker will host ‘Let’s Celebrate 2021’ with Joakim Gomez. The filming of ‘Celebremos 2021’ was carried out in accordance with IMDA guidelines, which allow no more than 20 on-screen talents to be unmasked during production. We would like to assure you that safety remains a priority and that there are safe management measures in place for ‘Let’s Celebrate 2021’. ”
