SINGAPORE – Five new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of noon on Monday (December 28), bringing Singapore’s total to 58,529.

There were four imported cases that were placed on a stay-at-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

There was a new community case and none of the workers’ dormitories.

Five new cases of coronavirus were reported on Sunday. All of them were imported.

Among the five, a 23-year-old woman in possession of a work permit had submitted a stay-at-home notice at Mandarin Orchard Singapore before being transferred to another specialty facility on December 20.

That day, the Ministry of Health began investigations of 13 previously reported cases that had delivered notices to stay at home at the hotel between October 22 and November 11.

The 13 cases, which came from 10 different countries, were infected by coronavirus strains with “high genetic similarity”, implying that the infections could have come from one source and could have occurred in the hotel.

The Malaysian woman, identified on Sunday night as Case 58,762, had a swab performed on December 19 and 21 and her test results were negative for Covid-19 infection.

Her swab last Thursday at the end of her stay-at-home notice came back positive and she was taken to the hospital the next day.

A confirmatory test from the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) also came back positive.

However, a second sample taken by NPHL last Saturday came back negative, and his serological test result also came back negative, the Health Ministry said.

The last test determines if the infection was old.

Investigations are underway to determine if it could be related to the 13 cases investigated by the Ministry of Health.

She was the third Covid-19 patient to test positive for the virus after serving part of an admission notice at Mandarin Orchard Singapore. The other two cases were announced last Friday and Saturday.

Among the other four cases imported on Sunday, one is a permanent resident. The 33-year-old man returned from Ukraine.

The remaining three are foreign domestic workers with work permits.

Among them were two Indonesians aged 37 and 38 and a Filipino woman aged 48.

All five patients had already received a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore and were tested while following their warnings.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 80.7 million people. More than 1.76 million people have died.
