The Wonder Woman 1984 credits scene explained

[ad_1]

Wonder Woman 1984 It’s finally in theaters (well, the ones that are open anyway), ending the long wait for the DC sequel.

Since fans have had to wait so long for the return of Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince, director (and co-writer) Patty Jenkins gives fans an extra treat in the form of a credits scene.

Jenkins had been reserved about the scene shown during the credits, leaving it out of the press screenings of Wonder Woman 1984 to allow fans to experience the joy for themselves.

Now what happens at the scene has been confirmed, but seriously, if you haven’t seen Wonder Woman 1984 look away now though, as you don’t want to spoil this scene yourself.

Final warning, SPOILERS ahead.

The credits scene features none other than OG Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, but she doesn’t play a Wonder Woman from the alternate universe.

Instead, Carter appears as Asteria who saves a woman from a falling pole and then tells her that she has been saving people for a while. Like Diana during the movie, it seems Asteria has decided to hide from humanity.

During the movie, it is revealed that Asteria was the first owner of the Golden Eagle armor that Wonder Woman wears in the finale. Asteria used the armor to hold off the attackers as her Amazon companions fled to the safety of Themyscira.

We don’t see what happens to Asteria in the flashback and it was assumed to be a sacrifice play. However, the credits scene confirms that she survived and has been helping humanity for centuries.

Does this mean we could see Carter return as Asteria in a possible third movie? We’d love to see that happen, but it could be that the credits scene is just a crowd-pleasing cameo for fans to enjoy.

Jenkins previously said Collider that the scene was “kind of” a button for the movie and an enjoyable moment for the audience, rather than a direct setup for Wonder woman 3.

What we do know, though, is that it probably won’t set a separate Worlds of DC future movie, based on what Jenkins said about why the first movie had no credits scenes.

“I think if you know that the next movie will take place in the same world or have the exact same tone, then I think it makes sense. To me, it doesn’t make sense to have a commercial for a completely different style of movie in the credits of another movie. “, said.

Wonder Woman 1984 It is available in UK theaters now and will premiere in US theaters and on HBO Max in the US on December 25.
