Barcelona are desperate to sell Philippe Coutinho next month so as not to have to pay Liverpool another installment of the £ 142 million transfer fee.

Coutinho moved to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 for a club record fee – it made the Brazilian the second most expensive player of all time.

The agreement consisted of numerous complements and one of them, according to Sport, is that Liverpool is owed a payment of 18 million pounds if it reaches 100 games for the club.

The 28-year-old has now played 90 official matches for the club, having played 12 times this season.

Barça coach Ronald Koeman is a Coutinho fan and the attacking midfielder is once again in Camp Nou’s favor.

However, the bleak financial outlook means Barcelona are open to offers for Coutinho and several other players. According to The Athletic, Barça would sanction the sale of Coutinho at around 45 million pounds.

Loans for Junior Firpo, Samuel Umtiti and Riqui Puig are also possibilities next month.

Coutinho’s plea

One thing is for sure that Barcelona will not be willing to activate the payment of 100 games. The former Reds player would have already completed a century of games if he had not been loaned to Bayern Munich.

He enjoyed great success while on loan to Bayern Munich last season. He won the Champions League, the German Cup and the Bundesliga.

He was strongly linked to a move to Arsenal. The Brazilian too made a personal request to Jurgen Klopp to bring him back to Anfield for the summer.

“The Premier League is one of the most exciting leagues in the world,” Coutinho said. World Soccer Magazine.

“Having the opportunity to play for a team like Liverpool will always be something for which I will be grateful. It is impossible to say what might or might not happen in the future. But right now my only objective is to be successful with Barcelona ”.
