SINGAPORE – Seven more people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a riot incident involving a deadly weapon at Clarke Quay last Saturday night (December 19), police said Tuesday.

Six men, between the ages of 22 and 31, and a 22-year-old woman were arrested for various alleged crimes related to the Eu Tong Sen Street incident.

They were arrested in island-wide raids carried out between Sunday and Monday by agents from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Central Police Division.

The fighters had fled the scene when police arrived after being alerted around 10:40 p.m., while members of the public were helping two injured people.

Four of the six men will be charged in court Tuesday for the crime of being a member of an illegal assembly.

The remaining two men will be charged with voluntarily causing serious injury by dangerous means and riot with a deadly weapon, respectively, on Wednesday.

Police are investigating the 22-year-old woman.

In an update, police said four of the five men who were arrested on Sunday were charged with rioting armed with a deadly weapon. The fifth, a 30-year-old, will be charged with willfully causing serious injury by dangerous means on Tuesday.

Those found guilty of being members of an illegal assembly can be jailed for up to two years and fined.

Those convicted of willfully causing serious harm by dangerous means can face life imprisonment, whipping and a fine.

The crime of rioting with a deadly weapon is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years and lashing.
