SINGAPORE – Software company Cadence Design Systems, semiconductor giant Micron and global logistics provider DHL were among the 13 companies to win awards for being the best workplaces in Singapore this year.

Speaking at the awards ceremony hosted by the global Great Place to Work institute on Monday (December 21), Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said that a great company to work for amid the Covid-19 pandemic is one that deals of physical and psychological health. health of your employees.

To rank workplaces, the institute got staff to answer more than 60 survey questions that look at areas like trust and whether the company helps them reach their full potential.
Staff experiences of company values, whether they could contribute new ideas, and how they feel about the effectiveness of their leaders, were also factors that were considered.
The survey also looked at what leadership actions companies took in response to the Covid-19 crisis this year, both for their workers and for the community at large.
The institute collected 25,000 survey responses representing 62,000 employees in Singapore.
This year’s study found that the best workplaces put their people first, engage and communicate with them, and ensure that workers feel comfortable sharing their challenges and asking for what they need.
Evelyn Kwek, Managing Director of Great Place to Work for Asean and Australia-New Zealand, said: “In times of crisis, people rely on leaders to stay informed and grounded. In response to the pandemic, leaders of the great places to work on the values of relationships and trust that were important elements of their pre-pandemic work cultures. “
He added that employers need to think beyond business operations and pay attention to staff work experiences, demonstrate caring and empathy, and continually listen to employees.
For example, the PAP Community Foundation (PCF), one of the winners, saw its management team sending weekly encouraging notes to staff. It also gave a one-time special bonus to staff and even salary increases. CEO Victor Bay said, “A good workplace should have a strong culture of trust with open communication and engagement with all staff and stakeholders, and a strong servant leadership practice.”
PCF Human Resources Division Director Albert Seah agreed: “Our commitment to involve our staff, acknowledge their concerns and take the necessary steps to make them feel safe and secure in their jobs has earned us their support. and trust”.
Another winner was the Foodpanda home delivery service. He gave the staff a special budget of $ 300 to purchase items to enhance their work-from-home experience, such as desks, monitors, or headphones. It also implemented a program to offer workers and their families free remote career counseling, as well as a work-from-home portal to provide resources on topics ranging from fitness to mental well-being.
