Five massage establishments were found to be operating without a valid license during a police operation conducted by police along Upper Serangoon Road on Wednesday (December 16).

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Massage Establishment Act 2017, operators of unlicensed massage establishments are liable for enhanced penalties.

The crime of conducting a massage service business in a massage establishment without a valid license carries a fine not to exceed $ 10,000 and / or up to two years in jail.

For repeat offenders, the crime carries a fine that does not exceed $ 20,000 and / or up to five years in jail.

In a statement on Friday (December 18), police said they will also take action against property owners who knowingly lease their facilities to unlicensed operators.

“Actions will be taken against the operators for disobeying the rules and regulations of the Massage Establishment Law of 2017,” they added.

“The police will continue to take tough enforcement measures against those who break the law.”
