Sam Allardyce sent a stern message to his West Brom players after losing his first game in charge of the club.
Allardyce oversaw the inheritance team losing 3-0 to Aston Villa on Sunday night.. It was a disappointing day for Allardyce from the start, when he fell behind in five minutes.
The new boss was not happy with the form of the goal, nor the way Jake Livermore received a red card later in the first half.
He said BT sport: “I think that starting and dreaming on the first goal was something that I didn’t like after four minutes and it’s a simple cross, not a great center, and we’re looking at the ball to go down 1-0.
“We kept it tight and I was worried if we would keep our form and we were trying, not with as much success, but the sending off has thrown us completely against. That was the last thing we needed.
“If we are going to go somewhere, I think this is the third red, you can’t lose control, you can’t hurt people. The last thing we need to get over it is for people to get Covid.
“You don’t need to make an inning like that, Jake Livermore is an experienced player and has decided for some reason to lash out at him. When the VAR has to look at it, you fear the worst, I have to agree with the decision.
“But Kortney Hause’s tackle on Grady Diangana, why hasn’t the VAR asked the referee to look at the screen? We could have made the same decision.
“It jumped up his shin and his ankle, I don’t know if that’s inconsistency or not. I’ve been here for a minute and I’m already talking about VAR ”.

West Brom would stay with ‘a Jack Grealish’
One individual who has defended Villa this season has been Jack Grealish. He won the penalty that led to the final goal and was also the player who was fouled for Livermore’s red card.
Allardyce praised the player, claiming that their side would be much better off if they had someone like him as well.
He added: “There were a couple of mistakes, we badly erased the first one and he saved it and the second is the only way to stop Jack Grealish.
“He is an outstanding person, an Aston Villa will be delighted to have. If we had a Jack Grealish, with all due respect to my players, we would stay on top. “
Allardyce quickly turned his attention to the next two games on the horizon, against Liverpool and Leeds.
He believes his team must start with the basics to improve their first result.
He concluded: “Anfield, an easy one next, then two days later, Leeds. We just have to try to make sure we don’t do what we did today again, disconnect and send a player off. “
