SINGAPORE – M1 apologized to its customers for a fiber broadband cut on Monday (December 21) morning.

Users across the island, including those in Woodlands, Yishun, Pasir Ris, Tiong Bahru and Hougang, experienced the outage, the second in a month, shortly after 10 a.m.

In a Facebook statement at 12:17 pm, M1 apologized, adding: “We are aware that some customers may have experienced intermittent difficulties accessing fiber broadband services before.”

The company said the issue has been resolved and users still having difficulty connecting to its network should turn off their devices before turning them back on. They should refrain from removing the cables from their optical network terminal and router devices.

On December 4, M1 users were affected by a fiber broadband outage that lasted more than four hours.

Following the blackout on Monday morning, M1 users took to social media, including the telecommunications company’s Facebook page, to voice their concerns.

According to the Downdetector website that records internet outages, M1 started having problems at 10:08 a.m., with a peak number of reports of more than 12,000 at around 11:30 a.m.

During the circuit breaker, M1 had two other outages lasting nearly 30 hours altogether from May 12-13.

The first was due to a corrupt profile database on the broadband network gateway of the telco, while the second was due to a software glitch that occurred on their network equipment.

M1 was fined $ 400,000 by Infocomm’s Media Development Authority in September for those service interruptions.

The Straits Times has reached out to M1 for comment.
