Singapore – Six people were rescued and about 100 evacuated when a fire broke out at a condominium in Punggol around 11:25 a.m. on Saturday (December 19).

The Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) reported in a Facebook post on the same day that residents were evacuated after a fire “completely engulfed” a bedroom in a 16th-floor two-level unit at the Waterwoods condominium. at Punggol Field Walk.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus had to force their way into the unit. “The fire was raging and had completely engulfed the bedroom,” the SCDF said. Firefighters at Sengkang Fire Station extinguished the blaze with a jet of water.

One person was rescued from the kitchen and two from a bedroom on the upper level of the unit, directly above the burning bedroom. Three people were rescued from the ledge outside the bathroom on the upper level. They were helped to safety through the bathroom window.

The SCDF transferred five of the occupants to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) due to smoke inhalation. The remaining person refused to be transferred to the hospital for medical assistance.

“Patients suffering from smoke inhalation or severe burns but who are in stable condition will be transferred to the Specialized Burn Center at Singapore General Hospital instead of the nearest hospital,” the SCDF said.

“About 100 residents of the affected block were evacuated by security agents as a precautionary measure.”

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

In addition to praising the SCDF for a job well done, members of the online community requested an update on the cause of the fire to obtain information on potential hazards.

“It is important to share with us what the root cause of the fire is, so that everyone takes note and beware of dangerous ones,” wrote Facebook user Steven Lee.

“Can you share what caused the fire? So we can take notice and prevent it, ”added another Facebook user, Mr. Marcus KP Soh. / ITGS
