Liverpool’s remarkable achievements in 2020 were recognized with two awards during the BBC’s Sports Personality program.

The Reds were crowned Premier League champions at the end of June and won the top flight by a remarkable 18-point margin, failing to win just six of 38 games.

Jurgen Klopp was the mastermind behind the win and led his team to equalize numerous records throughout the campaign, including the most wins (32) and the most home wins (18) in a season.

The Liverpool manager was in attendance to receive the Coach of the Year award on Sunday night, while his title-winning team received the Team of the Year award.

Klopp capped off a magnificent week with another award

Accepting the award, Klopp said, “When the coach of the Team of the Year became Coach of the Year, he obviously had an outstanding team on the field.

“Hendo (Jordan Henderson) almost mentions them all, but my coaching staff is obviously the main reason that all things worked the way they do, so I’m really happy.

“Usually you win an award as a soccer coach, this time obviously all my contenders were from different types of sports and I’ve never won anything like that before. It’s really good.

“On behalf of my coaches, I obviously accept it and take it home to Liverpool. Thank you very much.”

The award is Klopp’s second in the space of a week, and it is in addition to his FIFA Best Male Coach award on Thursday.

The German was delighted that his squad was also recognized as the Team of the Year and said: “I think my team honestly deserves it because they did an incredible job.

“It’s a mix of talent, character, desire and more of the power of the club, which is really great. All of that comes together, so that we could become champions and it was a great moment, to be honest.”

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who finished second to Lewis Hamilton in the Sports Personality of the Year vote, added: “It means a lot to the team.

“Looking from the inside, the guys deserve it because of how hard they work every day, wanting to improve, pushing each other to succeed.

“But I would also like to mention the equipment that you won’t see on the field, which I think needs a special mention because they go out of their way behind the scenes to get us to go and perform. People like medical equipment, fitness equipment, gardening personnel, kitchen staff, security.

“Everyone on the training ground does everything possible every day so that we can play football as best we can on the field. Without them, we would not have been successful in recent years.”
