SINGAPORE: Five men were arrested for their alleged involvement in a case of rioting with a deadly weapon, police said on Sunday (December 20).

Police said they were alerted to a fight between two groups of people along Eu Tong Sen Street around 10:40 pm on Saturday.

When the agents arrived at the scene, they found and treated two injured people. A 27-year-old woman and her 36-year-old partner were conscious when they were transferred to Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

During investigations at the scene, officers arrested a 40-year-old man near Carpenter Street for his alleged involvement in the fight.

“He was found hiding in a dark corner of an alley with injuries,” police said, adding that the man was also conscious when they brought him to SGH.

Officers from the Central Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department established the identities of some assailants who were involved in the fight.

Four men, aged between 21 and 34, were subsequently arrested.

“A manhunt operation is underway to arrest the other suspects involved in the case,” police said.

According to preliminary investigations, the fight between the two groups had started due to a dispute at a nearby restaurant.

Investigations are ongoing.

“The police will not tolerate such blatant acts of violence and blatant disregard for the law.

“We will spare no effort to apprehend these criminals and treat them in accordance with the law,” they added.

In a video of what appears to be the incident near Clarke Quay on a ramp leading to an underpass, several people can be heard yelling at each other and fighting is seen. In the video that has been circulating on social media, police officers are also seen treating an apparently injured person.

Anyone convicted of riot armed with a deadly weapon can be imprisoned for up to ten years and flogged.
