Roy Hodgson says Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson should be guaranteed a statue outside Anfield when he retires.
While the midfielder came to Liverpool six months after Hodgson’s departure from Anfield as coach, the two have worked closely together on the international stage.
It means that Hodgson has been able to witness firsthand the hard work Henderson has put into improving his game before becoming an influential figure on the Reds.
Hodgson revealed that he would vote for Henderson at this year’s BBC Sports Personality Awards after the 30-year-old was nominated along with Stuart Broad, Tyson Fury and Lewis Hamilton for the award.
Crystal Palace boss Hodgson also argued that Henderson’s career at Anfield deserves a statue after he captained the Reds to the Champions League and their first Premier League title.
“He is an exceptional player, one who works exceptionally hard on his game and who has constantly improved,” Hodgson said.
“In 2012, when he had just moved to Liverpool, we took him with us to Poland and Ukraine for his first trip to England at the European Championship. He was a very different player than he is today.
“He has worked so hard on his game to become the leading figure in that club. He works hard on his game technically and tactically as well. I would certainly support his bid for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

“I always vote for football people because that’s my world and I know football people, so I am pleased that he is nominated and I wish him all the best for that.
“Certainly a lot of things in his life will be of a very high standard at this point in terms of his satisfaction because taking Liverpool to their first trophy after so many years and doing it in such a spectacular way, his statue outside of Anfield is already guaranteed.” . one day.”
