Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to his coaching staff when he showed his surprise by winning the Best Male Coach award at the FIFA’s Best Awards for the second year in a row.
After leading Liverpool to their first Premier League title, Klopp was named the award winner, beating Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa and Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick.
It was the second year in a row that Klopp won the award after also obtaining it in 2019 due to the Reds’ victory in the Champions League, and the coach admitted that he was not expecting it.
He said, “I’m surprised, I was just sitting here because I thought I had won it last year and I was trying to show everyone respect. I wanted to show up wherever I was.
“It was easy this year because we are here in Liverpool and I am here with my players, like Trent, we are socially distanced together in a room on the training ground.
“Thank you very much, wow.
“Honestly, I have a lot of people to thank, especially my coaches. This morning we sat together and if I had thought we were going to win, I would have them here with me, standing to my right and left.

“So I have Pep Linders, Pete Krawietz, John Achterberg, Vitor Matos and Jack Robinson to thank, because what we did in the last few years is really special and everything about these guys. It was a great pleasure.”
When asked if he was building a legacy at Anfield, Klopp said he wasn’t sure, but is delighted to put smiles on the faces of Reds fans.
He said, “I don’t know what we’re building, but I know it felt really good. We didn’t dream for 30 years, but we already dreamed for a few years and what happened last summer was absolutely exceptional.”
“We all had a very special year, unfortunately not in a very positive way, but then, at least for all Liverpool fans, we were able to provide some highlights in a difficult period.
“For me, it was great and it felt absolutely overwhelming. I wouldn’t miss the Champions League trophy too, so they were both good.”
