Food bank vending machine launched in Choa Chu Kang for residents in need

SINGAPORE: A food bank vending machine with items such as canned food and bento meals has been launched in Choa Chu Kang for residents in need.

A total of S $ 10,000 in food credits will be awarded each month to 200 residents, who will be issued cards to use at the vending machine, the South West Community Development Council (CDC) said in a press release Friday (18 from December).

Located in Block 813A, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7, the goal of the initiative is to help “alleviate the difficulties less fortunate residents face with providing free food” and allow “elderly people with mobility problems to have access to food and meals more comfortably, “the statement said.

“Monthly, 200 vulnerable residents will receive credit cards of S $ 50 each, which they can tap into the machine to receive dry food such as canned food and rice, and bento meals that can be heated in the microwave provided,” said South West CDC .

The food bank vending machine was launched on December 12th by Ms. Low Yen Ling, Mayor of the Southwest District, along with Don Wee, who is Advisor to Grassroots Chua Chua Kang GRC (Brickland) Organizations.

The initiative will run until December 31, 2021.

The program is supported by the Singapore Food Bank, Fei Yue @ Chua Chu Kang Family Service Center, Mendaki @ Choa Chu Kang, Keat Hong Axis Colors RC, the Brickland Citizens Advisory Committee (CCC) and the Trust Development and Community Welfare.

Ms. Low described the initiative as an “excellent example of healthy collaborations between the 3P (People, Private and Public) sectors.”

“Despite the challenges COVID-19 poses, we are seeing unified efforts by organizations and individuals from all fronts coming together to help the vulnerable.

“We look forward to more partnerships of this type that will strengthen the resilience of our community,” said Ms. Low.
