Sony removes Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store after backlash

TOKYO: Sony Corp said Friday that it will pull CD Projekt SA’s Cyberpunk 2077 from its PlayStation Store and offer full refunds after players complained that the flagship title was riddled with bugs.

The unusual move is the latest bodily blow for Poland’s leading video game maker, whose share price has fallen 30 percent amid fury from disappointed fans and industry critics who complained that it was gave them limited access to the title ahead of its release on December 10.

The backlash against the repeatedly delayed game has led to complaints about the hype surrounding the new titles, the complicity of reviewers to push that hype, and the working environment for grassroots developers ahead of release dates.

CD Projekt, in damage control and widely viewed as a risk of squandering fan goodwill accumulated over many years, has promised to fix the bugs through updates.

The firm did not respond to an emailed request for comment outside of normal Polish business hours.
