SINGAPORE – Vietnam and Singapore plan to launch a green lane for official and business travel early next year.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Chee Wee Kiong, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Nguyen Quoc Dung, agreed to conclude the ongoing discussions on the green lane agreement and to reestablish regular commercial return flights between the two countries, the MFA said in a statement on Tuesday (December 15).
Singapore will be one of the first countries with which Vietnam will resume regular essential official and business travel.
Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation to combat the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic by resuming air connectivity and maintaining supply chain links.
They also co-chaired the XIII Singapore-Vietnam Bilateral Consultations via videoconference on the same day, where both affirmed the mutual support provided during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as facilitating the return of nationals residing in both territories, and the mutual contribution of supplies and equipment. .
They agreed that multilateral efforts to develop, manufacture and distribute vaccines were important for an effective international response to the pandemic.
Mr. Chee and Mr. Dung reviewed cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, finance and transportation, and discussed increasing collaboration in agriculture between the two countries.
They also agreed that there were opportunities to expand cooperation in emerging areas such as the digital economy, legal and judicial cooperation, and cybersecurity.
Emphasizing the importance of strengthening Asean unity and deepening economic integration, Chee congratulated Vietnam on its successful ASEAN presidency this year and the “outstanding leadership” of ASEAN’s response to the pandemic.
