Jürgen Klopp on Liverpool’s Premier League draw with Fulham: I didn’t like our game

Liverpool were unable to capitalize on their rivals’ points loss with a 1-1 away draw against Fulham.

The Reds were lousy in the early stages, conceding a string of good chances that Alisson had to deal with. It could have been 2 or 3 after half an hour. Then Liverpool did enough to bounce back in the game, tying a penalty awarded by VAR, but they didn’t really deserve more than that.

Jürgen Klopp was quite direct in his assessment.

“It took us half an hour to get going and that of course makes the game more difficult,” the coach told Liverpool’s official website.

“It was the first time that the fans were here for a long, long time and obviously [they] created an atmosphere. We really helped Fulham create that atmosphere, actually. Obviously, they played differently than they usually do; lots of straight balls, Loftus-Cheek second ball, high ball fight and this sort of thing. A lot of free throws, I think there were a lot of set pieces in the first half.

“That’s how it is. With the ball I didn’t like our game, but there was a lot of screaming from outside from all the coaches, so we were able to work that out a bit in the first half, like for 15 minutes, but then the break helped. and the second half was much better.

“I think that in the first half hour we could have lost the game, in the last 60 minutes we should have won it. In the end we get a point and that’s it. “

On Alisson’s crucial comeback, Klopp explained that “you could see in one or two situations you could see that he also needs rhythm, but in key moments he was there.

“Great saves, obviously, but the goalkeeper on the other side also had a very important job to do.”

Regarding defensive injuries, he explained that “we are not fighting with numbers in the center positions. We have some, they are getting younger. [but] we still have power plants. Today we take Hendo to that position.

“The situation is as it is; In fact, I hope Joel is okay, but I don’t know. So we have to find a solution, this is a football season ”.
