Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as Indiana Jones in a new movie.

The 78-year-old actor will make his return as the iconic archaeologist in a new film in the popular franchise, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy confirmed during Disney Investor Day on Thursday (December 10).

Kathleen also confirmed that the installment is on track to go into production next spring for a July 2022 release, and as previously announced, James Mangold will direct the feature.

A tweet from Disney’s official Twitter account read: “Lucasfilm is in pre-production on the next Indiana Jones installment. Leading the way is James @ Mang0ld, director of Ford v Ferrari, and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will return to continues the journey of his iconic character. The adventure arrives in July 2022. (sic) “

At the time of writing, nothing else is known about the new film, but Harrison’s casting comes as there were previously rumors that Chris Pratt would replace him in the role.

Harrison quickly shut down the speculation in 2015, saying no one else would take on the role and hilariously mentioned the wrong Chris, calling out fellow actor Chris Pine, in the process.

He said, “No one else will be Indiana Jones! Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’ll go away. It’s easy … This is an amazing way to tell Chris Pine this.”

The casting news is part of a big announcement for Disney, which used its Investor Day to confirm plans for dozens of new projects, including a reimagining of Cheaper By the Dozen starring Gabrielle Union, and a Nat Geo project starring Will Smith. which is being directed by Darren Aronofsky.

Disney also confirmed plans for Sister Act 3 with Whoopi Goldberg returning as a Deloris Wilson and Tyler Perry production, as well as a new film titled Disenchanted, which will be a sequel to the 2007 Amy Adams-directed comedy Enchanted.
