A customer was surprised to be charged an additional $ 0.50 after he asked to have his food delivered in a Styrofoam box.

The Stomp contributor, who wanted to be known only as Mr. Bai, said that he visited Ang Mo Kio 628 Market & Food Center last Tuesday (December 1), around 7.45am

He placed a bee hoon takeout order from a vegetarian food stand.

Bai, who messaged Stomp four times from December 1 to December 6 to express her outrage, said, “Usually a pack of vegetarian bee hoon with the normal food wrap costs only $ 3.

“However, I requested a styrofoam box and they actually charged me $ 0.50 for it.”

When asked if he had clarified the price before making the payment, Mr. Bai said, “They had already charged me and I asked them why it was so expensive to pack the bee hoon in the box.

“They said the box costs $ 0.50 but they didn’t tell me beforehand.

“I had no choice because the food was already packed. I had to pay and leave.

“This is ridiculous theft and in the light of day. It is very unfair to consumers. I find it unreasonable to pay 50 cents for a box of foam.”

When asked how much he thinks the styrofoam box should cost, Mr. Bai said, “It should be free or at most 20 cents.”
