Bielsa frankly admits Leeds defeat to West Ham

Marcelo Bielsa had no complaints about Leeds United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham, admitting they were the “superior” team of the night.

Despite taking an early lead on a Mateusz Klich penalty, Leeds couldn’t get anything out of the game at Elland Road. Tomas Soucek leveled in the first half before Angelo Ogbonna scored the winning goal in the 79th minute.

The result means they still have just a six-shot home league win this season.

The West Yorkshire side dominated possession, but West Ham was the better team and deserved all three points.

That’s something Bielsa agrees with and tells Sky Sports: “It was a fair loss. The kind of game it was, we are not surprised.

“We are preparing to face a match of the characteristics that the game had today. They were superior. “

Leeds’ second consecutive defeat leaves them 14th in the table and could be overtaken by Arsenal and Brighton this weekend.

Leeds working on a set-piece theme

Bielsa also said that he will continue to try to rectify the problems Leeds is having on set pieces.

West Ham’s first goal came from a corner and the second a free kick, as Leeds’ fight to defend them proved costly again.

Asked if he is concerned about this, Bielsa said: “We know about this problem and we are doing what is necessary. [things] to try to correct it.

“It is not enough, but we have to insist that this problem has less influence on our games.”

The whites were left without Robin Koch and Diego Llorente, so Luke Ayling had to substitute in the central half. The improvised defense may have contributed to the difficulties they experienced against the Hammers.

However, they expect an improvement in that area in time for Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle.
