A man was enjoying noodles for lunch on Saturday (December 5) when the discovery of a cockroach in his meal turned his pleasure into disgust.
Stomper Tan he said he immediately screamed and went to vomit. He also felt uncomfortable and unwell throughout the day.
According to Tan, he had ordered three bowls of noodles for himself and two friends at noon.
The order, placed through Foodpanda, was from Taste Beyond Taste Ban Mian & Fish Soup at Block 156 Yishun Street 11.
Tan recounted: “I ate first, before my two friends, because I was already too hungry.
“After eating five to seven bites of noodles and soup, I found a six-legged insect in my food.
“My mind went blank. I screamed and ran to the bathroom to throw up my food.
“I felt extremely uncomfortable afterwards and I hid in my room all day without lunch or dinner. I also felt bad and traumatized.”
Tan said he reported the matter to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on the same day. You have also received a full refund from Foodpanda.
The Stomper, who shared photos of the incident, added: “I don’t want to blame the restaurant 100% because the bug got into the soup without their recognition.”
“I just want to remind everyone during this pandemic to be kind enough to pay special attention to the contents of your food before eating.”
In response to an inquiry from Stomp, the SFA said it inspected the concession stand upon receiving comments.
“We did not detect any violations of our hygiene and food safety requirements during the inspection,” he added.
“Food safety is a joint responsibility. While the SFA establishes and enforces regulatory measures, food operators must play their role by adhering to good food preparation and hygiene practices.
“Members of the public who come across a potentially errant food operator should report to SFA through their online comment form. As part of the investigation and collection of evidence, SFA may contract with the comment provider for further details. “.
The SFA also said it will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant food operators if sufficient evidence is obtained.
