If you are reading this, Cyberpunk 2077 has officially launched worldwide. With the release of perhaps the most anticipated game of the year, it seems that the sudden flood of players trying to launch and / or download the game has caused Steam and CD Projekt’s GOG to experience some persistent glitches. This has resulted in at least some players being unable to finish downloading the Cyberpunk 2077 day one patch or syncing with the GOG cloud.
As of 4:30 PM PST, Steam’s own data statistics page shows that the service is experiencing a maximum bandwidth consumption of 17.7 terabytes per second. Basically, there are a lot of people “getting into” the game. Some gamers are even experiencing a sudden pause near the end of the 60GB download.
DownDetector’s Steam page also reported approximately 23,000 reports of Steam problems as of 4:50 pm PST.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a video game launch without many fans turning to social media to lament its momentary inconveniences. At least there are some gems.
In particular, it appears that the Steam store page is also experiencing intermittent blackouts. We tested this on our own PC and noticed that the store page had trouble loading, if it did load for a while.
By the time you read this, CD Projekt, Steam, and GOG will likely have solved your glitches, and downloading Cyberpunk 2077 may not be a problem. Of course, Cyberpunk joins the long list of massive AAA releases experiencing launch issues thanks to the sudden influx of excited gamers.
IGN gave Cyberpunk 2077 a 9 out of 10, calling it a “beautiful and dazzlingly dense urban landscape” with “an astonishing number of options” marred by frequent mistakes.
