SINGAPORE – The 83-year-old man aboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas cruise ship tested negative for Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Wednesday night (December 9).

Earlier, the Health Ministry announced that the man had tested positive for Covid-19 infection on Wednesday morning and was immediately isolated.

He had reported to the medical center on board with diarrhea and was tested for infection using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test kit on the ship.

His original PCR sample was retested at the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) and tested negative for Covid-19 infection, the Health Ministry said. A second new sample was tested and was also negative.

The NPHL will conduct another test on Thursday to confirm its Covid-19 status, the ministry added.

All close contacts identified in the case have been isolated as a precautionary measure and all passengers will undergo mandatory Covid-19 testing before they are allowed to leave the terminal at Marina Bay Cruise Center.

Six new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of Wednesday night, bringing Singapore’s total to 58,291.

All six cases were imported and placed on notice of admission upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.

The new cases included a Singaporean, two permanent residents and three work permit holders who are currently employed in Singapore.

There were no cases of workers’ dormitories and none in the community.
