Relationships are tough, and even celebrities, who seem to have it all with their dazzling looks, money, fame, and career success, also suffer from heartbreak. Just look at the whole Grace Chow-Show Lo breakup fiasco.
The latest celebrity to bring her love life into the spotlight is Carman Lee, best known for playing Xiaolongnü, or Little Dragon Maiden, in the 1995 martial arts drama The Return of The Condor Heroes.
The 54-year-old Hong Kong actress recently published a new book detailing her past romances, in particular with a wealthy businessman Guo Yingquan, Oriental Daily News reported.
However, the decade-long relationship was anything but sweet.
Carman confessed that she was deeply hurt in her relationship with the man, who is 20 years older, even suffering from depression after it ended. It took him five years before he got better and moved on.
In his book, he recalled how he was at the peak of his career when he joined Guo. Although he was divorced and his business had failed, she decided to stay with him through thick and thin, thinking about marriage.
As he walked out, Carman would grant Guo’s wishes, unreasonable as they were.
“He didn’t want me to film, so I stopped working and faded out of the spotlight. He didn’t like my brightly colored nail polish so I wouldn’t apply anything at all. I was hoping I could dress more maturely, so I gave up on the style that I liked, “he shared.
Guo had also refused to meet her parents and never became engaged to her. On the two occasions that Carman discussed the marriage, he rejected the idea. Still, she considered herself his wife and cared for him and his family.
Even though he gave everything to make their relationship work, it was fruitless. Carman revealed that Guo initiated a breakup every year, and each time, he tried to save their relationship.
In their eighth year together, he was determined to part ways for good. After 16 months of separation, they reunited for a short period of time. In their 10th year together, this chapter of their life has finally come to an end.
Marked by this relationship, Carman said she now finds it difficult to get along with the opposite sex and has been single ever since.
