A family of four went on vacation to Sentosa, but their vacation was cut short after one of the children ended up in the hospital.

The 40-year-old mother told Shin Min Daily News that her family was having breakfast at a hotel on Friday morning (December 4) when her oldest daughter realized that something was wrong with her apple juice.

She spat out a piece of ‘plastic’.

Her family didn’t think much of it and continued with her food, but when the 10-year-old finished her drink, she found more glass pieces of different sizes in the bottom of the bottle.

They made a clinking sound as he shook the bottle, the mother said.

Alarmed by the discovery, she checked her daughter and inspected her youngest daughter’s drink, as both children had ordered apple juice for breakfast.

Although the older girl said she did not swallow any of the glass pieces, the family alerted restaurant staff to what they found in the bottle. Then the restaurant offered to send the girl to the hospital.

When the mother said she was going to call the police, the restaurant informed the hotel management about the incident.

Due to the language barrier, the woman spoke to them with the help of translation from those on the scene, and the response infuriated her.

According to the mother, they did not ask about her daughter’s welfare and even said that they could take the matter to court if she wanted to seek compensation.

Unhappy with the way they handled the incident, he decided to call the police.

The woman then took her daughter to seek medical attention at a hospital where she was later held for observation.

Instead of obtaining compensation, the woman said she was safeguarding her rights as a consumer, adding that she is considering reporting the incident to the relevant authorities.

Police confirmed that they received a report of the incident.

Last November, the Slappy Cakes pancake restaurant apologized after its staff served a smoothie with mixed glass pieces.

A family diner there found the texture of the drink “grainy” after the mother took a sip. She thought that the grains were part of the fruit or ice, but realized they were small pieces of glass after spitting them out.

Her son had drunk the smoothie by then and complained of a sore throat a few hours later, she told The Straits Times. Later, her husband took the family to the hospital.

The restaurant spokesperson explained that a member of staff had accidentally broken a glass while preparing the drink. While cleaning up the mess on the floor, he didn’t notice that a piece of glass had fallen into the blender.

“We also immediately conducted a training session with our operations staff and emphasized our standard operating procedures. The premise of the restaurant was also thoroughly cleaned, ”Slappy Cakes said at the time.

Although the police were called to the scene, the case was turned over to the Singapore Food Agency for investigation.
