Liverpool could secure the Wolves’ most exciting two-star transfers, thanks to the special connection that exists between the players and two members of the Reds coaching staff, a report claims.
The two Premier League clubs have forged a strong bond in recent times, thanks to a series of agreements.
The Reds spent around £ 41 million to sign Portuguese leader Diogo Jota this summer. He has scored nine goals in 15 appearances and has been described as the signing of the summer by an expert.
Jota’s success so far at Anfield seems all the more remarkable thanks to the impressive pay schedule reached by athletic director Michael Edwards.
In addition, Liverpool helped finance that move. selling Wolves Ki-Jana Hoever for a fee amounting to £ 13.5 million.
The wolves will pay £ 9 million up front with an additional £ 4.5 million in add-ons for the teenage defender.
Another link between the two clubs comes from former Reds academy player Conor Coady. While he initially left Anfield for Huddersfield, he retains a strong connection to his childhood club. Links to Liverpool are never far away for the Wolves’ patron. That’s after it was revealed that the Wolves duo have a special bond with Liverpool coaches Pep Lijnders and Vitor Matos.
Jurgen Klopp’s number 2 Lijnders worked with Porto before Liverpool and knows the pair well. He played an important role in helping bring Jota to Anfield and the stunt could be repeated in the future.
With Matos also working in Porto in the past, the Daily Star notes that both Ruben Neves and Fabio Silva could end up at Anfield later on if they continue to impress.
Lijnders said of Neves in 2019: “I know him very well, his ambition, his passion for the game, his professionalism. We know what he gives the team and this type of player always interests us.
“I recognized him when I saw him in Wolves. I saw technique, professionalism and I saw the 2013-14 player that I met ”.
The Dutch coach also knows Silva well, although he is more of a Matos protégé. Appointed in October 2019, Matos is the Reds’ elite development coach. Having played a similar role with Porto, he oversaw Silva’s appearance on the Portuguese giants.
Fabio Silva labeled ‘unique’
The 18-year-old cost the Lobos £ 36 million over the summer and so far Nuno Espirito Santo has used it sparingly. He has scored twice in seven appearances so far. However, now he could have a chance to impress with Raúl Jiménez prepares for a spell on the sidelines.
Espirito Santo said about his new striker in September: “What I can tell you and I’m sure of, Fabio is a great talent, pure talent. We have to help him develop that talent.
“The priority is to integrate it into the idea of the team and then that allows the players to develop.
“It would be a mistake to compare Fabio with any other player because he is unique.”
